Don’t look them in the eyes

Luckily the fence made that impossible…

This was an interesting and special moment at Diergaarde Blijdorp (the zoo) in Rotterdam. The lions there have an old enclosure, but it isn’t  caged as these images are suggesting. There is just a small fence (maybe one meter wide) between their inside enclosure and the pond, separating the lions from the visitors.

When we walked up there two of the lions were just standing there and they kept standing there. I’m not sure whether they even noticed me. They seemed to be waiting for something or someone. That someone wasn’t me, because the didn’t move a muscle, when I walked up there. They just stood there..
